Diamonds are forever

"I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond." (Mae West)
As a person of modest means I didn’t really get the allure of diamond jewelry, not truly. But then I started passionately watching movies from the 50’s and 60’s and I was suddenly hooked on all the glitter and promise.

Elizabeth Taylor

Collecting pictures with the icons of old Hollywood such as Mae West, Lana Turner, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich will do that to you. These amazing ladies loved a little (and by little I mean a lot) bling; they were always so impeccably glamorous.

The legendary blue dress designed by Edith Head and worn by Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief

You just can’t watch Hitchcock’s “To Catch a Thief” (1955) and not wish to go back in time. You’ll just dream of driving a blue convertible on a winding mountain road (preferably without a police car following you) with the French Riviera at you feet while wearing swing shaped dresses in pastel colors, sunglasses and stacks of diamond anniversary rings on your fingers.

There’s no other way of living when you’re as flawless as Grace Kelly. You can only hope for somebody with half of Cary’s Grant swagger. But I would definitely settle for living near Cannes and sometimes spending a week or two at Carlton.

You’ll start getting the magic of a beautifully made diamond anniversary band after seeing “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (1953), a thrilling musical comedy in glittering Technicolor with Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russel directed by Howard Hawks.

While most of the fabulous jewelry used in movies are high quality make believes, Marilyn Monroe actually wore a pear-shaped diamond on screen while singing the now iconic “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”. And why shouldn’t they be exactly that? Ice cream just doesn’t cut it sometimes.

"Do you think it's too small, Dorothy?" - Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Which brings me at Anjolee – they have a gorgeous rings selection - my absolute favorite is the anniversary band, just imagine a couple of these babies stacked on your finger, I can just see an awesome mix and match of different gemstones – a huge trend right now. Anjolee also allows any of their jewelry designs to be customized by metal type (yellow gold, white gold or platinum), diamond quality, size and length making anybody feel like a movie star.

How do you feel about diamonds? Any great movies come in mind?

Head Shot:)

I’m super busy lately and so it’s my sister, so updating the blog is proving problematic. Still we’re totally going to do it! My outfit is very simple; I was in a hurry yet again so:
Vintage dress and belt – checked
              Huge earrings – checked
              Big ass ring – checked
              Bracelets – double checked
              Comfy flats – checked

Pin up inspired hairdo that took a whooping 2 minutes to achieve – checked…kind of :)))).

A quick note about the dress – I adore the print, such an amazing mix of colors, florals and faded old sepia style photos and postal cards (and hand written addresses), I hope you can see it in the photos.

I’ve also just realized that I don’t have a single, serious, CV type head shot so Sara suggested I should use one of these pictures!!!!! She’s always mocking me mercilessly!:))). Obviously cropping one of these pictures (just the head and shoulders) would give the impression I’m naked which, let’s face it, it’s something you really don’t want a future employer to see unless, I don’t know, you’re applying for the oldest of the jobs.

I’m wearing:
dress and belt - vintage
flats, bracelets and earrings – random brand
ring – made by me (see my shop here)

Today's mood:)

I can’t believe I was so busy and couldn’t watch Supernatural until today (blasphemy!!!!!). I’m a huge fan of the series; I love everything about this TV Show. Me and my sister always joke around about how every Saturday we go on a double date with Sam and Dean Winchester. And OMG, season 7 it’s going to be legendary, I can feel it.
Yes Anna, I DO agree :)
  •  that Misha Collin's facial expressions are a thing of beauty and still terrifying
  • that Dean's cheekbones and lips are a gift from God
  • Sam looks as HOT AS THE FIRES OF HELL!!
  • that Crowley is hilarious
  • that the end of the world wouldn’t be so bad on team Winchester (I’m talking literally ON)

Are you off to somewhere?

This is what I wore last Sunday at Absolutely Fabulous – a well known fashion&vintage fair here in Bucharest. I went there with my handmade accessories and some super cool retro clothes from my own wardrobe and so I didn’t have the time to take many photos. Fortunately some of my friends came to visit and Costin snapped a few photos of my outfit while Smaranda took care of my stuff.

I’ve also worn the same outfit a couple of days before and my beloved Laura took some snaps of me so you might notice some small differences (can you spot them?) both in my get up and background.

The asymmetric dress I’m wearing is actually a skirt that I’ve just brought high enough to cover my boobs and then covered with a burned up, oversized blouse, all nicely wrapped up with a vintage belt. I’ve only worn these shoes for like 10 minutes and then changed into my red flats, they really weren’t made for a 10 hours marathon, also I was freakishly tall and didn’t want to scare the children clients.

My “cross” nails were a big hit, everybody complimented me on them and asked how I made them so here you have the tutorial.

The roses and spikes headband is handmade by me. I think it's one of the coolest things I have ever made myself, a sweet mix of rock and roll and feminine influences (you can find it in my Etsy Store).

A shout out to all my lovely blogger friends that came to the fair: Sandra and Eve, Oana Zidaru that actually bought one of my colorful leather bow ties, Stella, Costin, Smaranda, Laura, Luminita, Raluca and Silvia. I’ve also got to meet Cristina for the first time (face to face that is) and man, she’s super beautiful and such a nice person (which is the most important thing in my book).

Here you can see details with my handmade accessories: brooches, bow ties, headbands, bobby pins, necklaces, flower crowns - you can buy them from my Etsy store or from my site! I hope you like them!:)

 I’m wearing:
skirt worn as a dress and bow bracelet/fusta si bratara – random brand
heels and oversized blouse/sandale si top – New Look
belt/curea - vintage
rings/inele– Meli Melo and Forever 21,

TV Shows - Bromance

If you’re still enjoying vacation and pretty much bumming around then I envy you and I thought about recommending you some great TV shows. You probably know I’m a little bit of a freak and watch 30 too many so I’m pretty excited for the new TV season.
This summer wasn’t bad either; I had a few series to keep me entertained. It was all about bromance (term that describes the complicated love and affection shared by two straight males, a form of homosocial intimacy). I have to confess I enjoy bromance a little bit too much:)))))

What makes these shows really good is the great chemistry between the leads, they are like the friends you wished you had.

Franklin & Bash
This one is first on my list mainly because of Zack Morris Mark-Paul Gosselaar aka the longest crush of my life. I loved him in middle school, high school (I actually had a boyfriend that was his look alike:)))) and I think he’s still the hottest shit ever (does anybody else remember that infamous episode of Weeds when he guest stared?). OMG!!!!
Back to Franklin & Bash – amazing bromance between the two characters (played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer), over-the-top antics, extremely funny, a refreshing TV show about lawyers that you’ll surely enjoy.

Suits
Also about lawyers, a different take tough, amazing bromance. I never thought somebody can look better than Don Draper (Mad Men) or Neal Caffrey (White Collar) in a suit until I saw the first episodes of Suits and met Harvey Specter (holly wardrobe!!!)

Harvey is painfully handsome and also happens to be a bit of a genius. The banter between Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams (the actors that play the central characters) is super entertaining, the story and supporting characters are also very good.

Royal Pains
A light hearted TV show about two brothers that move to sun-drenched Hamptons to start a concierge medicine business to the wealthy (one of them is a medic, the other is a brilliant moron), it’s addictive and funny, the characters are lovable, the kind of show that makes you feel good.

Rizzoli & Isles
This one is a great bonus that features a girlmance for a change, it’s about the unlikely friendship between two very different but all the same lovable characters: detective Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) who’s a medical examiner, a cop drama with a twist based on a book series written by a woman (Tess Gerritsen), humor, well written story lines and amazing banter.

Do you already watch any of them?

Modern pin up meets dots :)

I’ve always loved polka dots and I own a lot of clothes featuring this amazing print. And what do you know? The fashion trends for this fall-winter finally caught up (I’m such a visionary :))))). I knew I could bend fashion to my will!:))))).

Seriously now, I adore this short, fun dress and I always use a belt when I wear it because is one or two sizes too big which I don’t mind, that means more comfort for me.  It also makes me feel like a pin up girl, no wonder I went for this type of look with the red lipstick and the little scarf in my hair.

I’m really going to miss summer and the easy breezy outfits that don’t take more than 5 minutes to put together. I will also miss wearing sunglasses which I’m really obsessed with (my sunglasses collecting has got a little bit out of control, it’s rings all over again, only the ring buying hasn’t stopped either). I really need a second job or a better job!:)

And how cool is that the dress also has pockets?

If you like my half moon nails, check out the tutorial I made for all of you to use!:)

I’m wearing:
dress, belt, scarf - vintage
gold sandals - H&M
 owl earrings – random brand
sunglasses - Asos
